Usman Khawaja, an experienced Australian hitter, announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday, January 2. The last Ashes Test of 2025-26, which begins on January 4 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), will be the batter’s farewell game for Australia. In January 2011, the southpaw made his Test debut at the same location against the same opposition.
The 39-year-old suffered two dismissals in the first Ashes 2025–26 Test in Perth. Back spasms then ruled him out of the Brisbane Test. Australia initially left Khawaja out of the playing XI in Adelaide but recalled him after Steve Smith withdrew due to vertigo. He responded with scores of 82 and 40 in that Test, before enduring a difficult Boxing Day Test, where he managed 29 and a duck.
