On Thursday, October 30, in Navi Mumbai, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India defeated Australia by five wickets in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final and achieved 339 targets to make history. The women in blue, as a result, progressed to the final against South Africa, which beat England by 125 runs in the semi-final.
It should be noted that this was the first time in Women’s ODI World Cup history that a team had chased 300 or more goals to win a knockout match. In the semi-final, the previous highest run chase was 219 by South Africa against England in 2017, according to Cricbuzz.

After India’s victory over the seven-time winners Australia, a number of former cricketers turned to Instagram and X to wish the team good luck in the final.
T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy-winning captain Rohit Sharma dedicated an Instagram story to the India Women on the special occasion. See the following:
Sachin Tendulkar, a legendary batsman, also took to Instagram to praise Team India. He captioned the post:
“Fabulous victory! Well done @jemimahrodrigues and @imharmanpreet_kaur for leading from the front. Shree Charani and @officialdeeptisharma, you kept the game alive with the ball. Keep the tricolour flying high.”
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly congratulated the Women in Blue, writing:
“Incredible stuff from the girls .. how good they have become in last 5 years .. one more to go .. just outstanding.”
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan commented:
