Punjab Kings were dealt a blow in their clash against the Mumbai Indians when vice captain Shashank Singh had to walk off the field injured after being hit on his head by the ball.
The last ball of the powerplay, Vijayakumar Vyshak bowled, was pushed down to mid off by Naman Dhir and scampered to take one off after already having taken 14 off the over.. Captain Shreyas Iyer, who had taken himself in at mid-off, hastened up, seized the ball and tossed it at the end which was not striker. The ball, having struck one of the pitches after going over the stumps, struck Shashank on the head. Shashank was supporting the square leg throw. He then had to be taken off the field, holding an ice pack to his head.

— Sports Today (@SportsTodayofc) April 16, 2026 There wasn’t much time needed for Shashank to be back on the field, though. The Chhattisgarh-born entered the field and even came to bowl the 14th over of the match. He made an instant impact, sending the well-set Naman Dhir packing for 50 off 31.

After being put in to bat first, Mumbai Indians endured a slow start, managing just 48/2 in the powerplay. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh delivered a brilliant opening spell, dismissing Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession. Notably, he conceded just four runs across those crucial deliveries, putting MI under early pressure.
