Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in the opening of IPL 2026 in Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Wednesday, April 1. LSG lost the toss and they were put to bat first.
They were not registering a large total because they were bundled out at 141 in 18.4 overs. They experienced a batting failure. Mitchell Marsh (35 off 28) and Abdul Samad (36 off 25) played a key role and assisted LSG to reach a reasonable total. DC had three wickets each by Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan.
The Lucknow based team were starting the game with the ball with an impressive start after a poor batting display. First ball of the chase DC was put under pressure when Mohammad Shami dismissed KL Rahul.
Delhi completed on 33/4 in six overs and had the lowest score in powerplay of the season. ButSameer Rizvi made a brilliant knock in the face of pressure to save his team. The boy was beaten on 70 out of 47 to get his side across. Prince Yadav took two wickets on behalf of LSG.

Meanwhile, Sameer Rizvi thrilled the crowd with his aggressive strokeplay, smashing five fours and four sixes. Notably, his innings featured a clever ramp shot off Anrich Nortje in the eighth over.

During the contest, Prince Yadav delivered an impressive spell for Lucknow Super Giants. Notably, he provided a breakthrough in the fifth over by dismissing Axar Patel and Pathum Nissanka, thereby reviving his team’s hopes. Meanwhile, apart from his bowling exploits, he also engaged in a fiery on-field exchange with Tristan Stubbs.
In the same over, Stubbs struck a pull shot for four; however, Yadav responded immediately with a tight full delivery that resulted in a dot ball. Subsequently, the seamer locked eyes with the South African batter during his follow-through, adding intensity to the moment.

At the start of the innings, Rishabh Pant, the skipper of Lucknow Super Giants, came out to open for his side in their inaugural match. However, his stay at the crease proved brief as his innings ended prematurely.
Meanwhile, on the final ball of the third over, Mitchell Marsh struck the ball straight back towards Mukesh Kumar. Although the pacer sprinted in to grab the catch, he only managed to get his fingertips to it; consequently, the ball deflected onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end.
