Virat Kohli records his 11th time scoring consecutive ODI ton

Virat Kohli came into the second ODI with a century from the previous encounter in Ranchi and continued his good form in Raipur. The innings also marked his 11th consecutive ODI century, the most by any player in the game’s history. He now has ODI hundreds at six different venues, totaling over 500 runs, surpassing icons such as Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Dean Jones, and Jacques Kallis.
With India being asked to bat first on a placid pitch, the veteran stitched an excellent partnership of 195 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Kohli’s 102 from 93 balls contained seven fours and two sixes, showing his ability to rotate the strike even as South Africa tried to make a comeback.

Kohli’s century was his eighth against South Africa, in which he has dominated by averaging over 70. The 195-run stand with Gaikwad, who made his maiden ODI hundred, took India out of the woods after struggling initially. It also took him to his 84th international century, second only to Tendulkar’s hundred of centuries, and 40th at home behind only the Master Blaster (42).
