Axar Patel got India a much awaited relief when he dismissed Australia captain Mitchell Marsh in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, October 25. The left-arm spinner ended a partnership that was growing and Marsh was sent away to make a well-compensated total of 41 in 50 balls, including one six and five fours.
The wicket was taken in the 16 th over when Axar threw an intelligent length ball on off-stump. The ball was going to spin away, Marsh made an attempt to open some space and pass over the covers, but the delivery was straight and full. It went through his defense and struck on the top of the off stump which left Australian skipper flattened.

Axar Patel has been very good both with the bat and ball in the ongoing ODI series. The left-arm spinner had scored 31 and 44 runs respectively in the opening two One-Day Internation matches. In both the games, he took a single wicket. Ravindra Jadeja lost his place to the all-rounder in the ongoing 50-over series of India.
Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj remove Australia’s openers in 3rd ODI vs India

In the third ODI of the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia lost its openers, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, very early hit by Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj. Siraj provided the first breakthrough to India when he sent back Head on 29 who was caught at backward point following an untimely shot. This was then followed by Axar getting rid of the Marsh which pressurized the Australian top order.
Australia then had 102/2 in 17.2 overs and Matthew Short and Matt Renshaw were attempting to stabilize the innings. The first two ODIs have already been won by the hosts 2-0 featuring a seven-wicket (DLS method) and a two-wicket victory.

This series win marks Australia’s second consecutive ODI triumph over India at home, following their 2-1 victory in the 2020/21 season. The home side’s dominance has been evident throughout the series, especially with their fast bowlers performing consistently.
For India, new captain Shubman Gill is still chasing his first win as a full-time ODI skipper. The Men in Blue will also be looking to break their losing streak in Sydney, where they haven’t won an ODI since 2016, suffering three straight defeats at this venue.
