Glenn Phillips of Gujarat Titans (GT) is one of the most obviously athletic cricketers around today. The Kiwi international has taken some catches in the field that are able to challenge Newton and co when it comes to the laws of physics.
Aside from that, Phillips is also very quick in the middle-overs, something he displayed when he ran to the non-striker’s end sans his bat during a 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and them at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April 8.
In the closing stages of the first innings, Phillips drove a low full toss from T.Natarajan straight down the ground. Mistiming the shot, the 29-year-old started walking towards the dressing room expecting Tristan Stubbs to take a comfortable catch on long on boundary.
But Phillips had no pad or bat in his hand, as Stubbs was unable to get out of the way of the ball.

— Yogi Halai (@Yogi_Halai190) April 8, 2026Phillips chipped in nicely lower down the order, scoring an eight-ball 14* to help GT pile up 210 on board. This comprised hitting a six off the bowling of Mukesh Kumar in the final over.
The defending champions recorded a dramatic one-run win against DC after the hosts could not chase down 13 runs in the final over, despite former GT batter David Miller bringing it down to just two runs needed off two balls.
This was the Titans’ first victory of the 2026 IPL, following losses in their first two games of the season to the Punjab Kings and the Rajasthan Royals.
Phillips, on the other hand, has long waited to establish himself in the playing XI of an IPL franchise and that has finally happened. The New Zealand star made his last appearance in the tournament back in 2023, playing five games for Sunrisers Hyderabad. GT picked him up for INR 2 crores in 2025, but an injury ruled him out for the entire season.
Until now, Phillips has appeared in three matches of the 2026 IPL season so far, tallying up a total of 42 runs at a strike-rate of 140.
