India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill showed both class and confidence in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, September 21. During the third over of India’s chase, Gill took on Pakistan’s spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi and backed it up with a bold gesture.
Afridi bowled a length delivery outside off, trying to keep things tight. But Gill, looking in superb rhythm, stepped out and cracked the ball through extra cover for four. As Afridi walked back to his mark, Gill confidently pointed towards the boundary, making it clear where the shot had gone.

Pakistan had a competitive total of 171, 5 within their 20 over with the opener Sahibzada Farhan leading the way with a composed 58 in their 45 balls. Other batters played their small roles, however, India’s Shivam Dube sparkled with the ball picking two key wickets. Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav contributed with one wicket each too and prevented Pakistan to score higher.
India’s Aggressive Start Sets Up High-Scoring Chase vs Pakistan
In pursuit of 172, India began aggressively reaching 69 during the powerplay courtesy of assaulting shots by Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. Their close beginning joint venture did not allow the Pakistan bowlers to get settled and India appeared to be well in the pursuit.

It was an additional pressure following the seven-wicket win of India in the group stage against Pakistan on September 14. Kuldeep Yadav had picked up three wickets in that match and the chase had been led by captain Suryakumar Yadav with an unmatched 47. The Super Four reunion was met with tremendous expectation by fans and analysts who wanted to see the consecutive part to the legendary feud.
