Arundhati Reddy was struck on the knee by a Heather Knight drive

India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign faced a big concern after Arundhati Reddy injured her knee during the first warm-up match against England in Bengaluru. With just five days left for the tournament to begin, her fitness has now become a major question for the team.

The injury happened in the 13th over when Heather Knight’s straight shot hit Reddy on her left knee. She fell in pain and had to be taken off the field in a wheelchair after the physio’s quick check. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues stepped in to finish the over.

The full extent of Arundhati Reddy’s injury is still unclear. She appeared briefly during a rain break, walking with a noticeable limp, but did not return to bowl. India’s management will closely monitor her fitness ahead of their World Cup opener against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30.

This will be Reddy’s first ODI World Cup. After strong performances for Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League, she made her ODI debut in 2024 and has taken 15 wickets in 11 matches, including 4 for 26 against Australia. Her all-round skills make her a key player for India in both batting and bowling.

Renuka Singh removed Georgia Voll early

There are only four seamers in the 15 player squad in India, Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Kranti Goud and all rounder Amanjot Kaur. Renuka is fresh back into the team after a lengthy spell of injury and Amanjot did not compete in any competitive cricketing tournament since the England tour early this year. Sayali Satghare is on the standby list, but has shown himself during the recent matches.

India has already faced injury setbacks before the World Cup. Wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia tore her ACL during a skills camp in Vizag and has been ruled out, with Uma Chetry named as her replacement.
