Team India opener Abhishek Sharma has maintained his rich vein of form in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. He has struck at an average of 76 and rate of 271.43 in his three innings, managing to score 152 runs. He is the second-highest run-getter in the series. Above him on the list is his skipper Suryakumar Yadav (171 runs).

Abhishek had started the home T20I series against the Kiwis with a breathtaking 84 off 35 balls in Nagpur. The left-handed batsman’s knock was laced with five boundaries and eight maximums. After being out for a first-ball duck in Raipur, the opening batsman of Dindigul Dragons was at his destructive best in Guwahati as he hammered 68* off only 20 balls.

Abhishek, who made his T20I debut in July 2024, has played 36 games for India in the format. He has shattered a few huge records in what is still early days. With Abhishek making a name for himself with his six-hitting prowess, here we have a look at the six records held by the 25-year-old in T20Is.

1. Fastest to 1,000 T20I runs in balls

Abhishek is the quickest to 1000 runs in T20Is, in terms of balls. The left-hander broke the record in his 528th ball, during the fifth T20I against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane in November 2025. The previous fastest 1,000 runs was scored by Tim David in 569 balls for Australia.

Of India’s batters, current skipper Suryakumar took 573 balls to reach the 1,000-run mark. In all, Abhishek scored 1,267 runs from 36 T20I games at an average of 38.39 and a strike rate of 195.22 including two centuries and eight fifties.

2. Highest score in a T20I innings without playing a dot ball

He also has the highest total of runs scored without playing a “dot” ball in Twenty20 Internationals. He achieved the incredible feat during his unbeaten 68, made from just 20 balls against New Zealand in Guwahati on January 25. The previous best was scored by Kassim Nassoro (59*) for Tanzania against Cameroon in Rwanda in November 2021.

3. Best ever ICC T20I rating points

Abhishek has the unbelievable record of amassing the most rating points (931) in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings. The dynamic left-handed batter achieved the milestone by overtaking England’s Dawid Malan (919). The other Indian batters to cross the 900-point mark are Suryakumar (912) and Virat Kohli (909). Currently, Abhishek has 908 rating points.

4. Highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is

Abhishek also owns the record for the highest individual score by a Team India batter in T20Is. The 25-year-old smashed 135 off 54 balls against England in February 2025 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in the fifth T20I of the five-match series. In the process, he went past Shubman Gill’s 126* off 63 balls against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in February 2023.

Apart from Abhishek and Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma are the only other Indian batters to register scores of 120 or more in T20I cricket.

5. Most sixes by an Indian in a T20I innings

The record for the most sixes in a T20I innings by an Indian also belongs to Abhishek. He achieved the feat during his sensational 135 against England in Mumbai in February 2025, smashing 13 sixes along with seven fours.

Three Indian batters have hit 10 sixes in a T20I innings — Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson. Rohit struck 10 sixes during his 118 against Sri Lanka in Indore in December 2017, Varma did so during his 120 against South Africa in Johannesburg in November 2024, while Samson hit 10 fours during his 107 off 50 in Durban in the same series.

6. First player to score 300+ runs in a single T20 Asia Cup edition

Abhishek Sharma is the first batter to score more than 300 runs in a single edition of the T20 Asia Cup. He achieved the landmark during the 2025 tournament held in the UAE, scoring 314 runs in seven innings at an average of 44.85 and a strike rate of 200, including three half-centuries. The previous record was held by Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 281 runs in the 2022 edition.
