Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Virat Kohli (C), along with his former teammates AB de Villiers (centre R) and Chris Gayle (centre L), celebrates with the trophy after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 final cricket match

After months of speculation, it has been officially confirmed that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been put up for sale. Reports suggest that Diageo, the current owner of RCB’s IPL and WPL teams, has already begun the process. The sale, which includes all franchise rights and agreements, is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.

The announcement comes after RCB’s historic 2025 season, where they finally lifted their maiden IPL title. Under new captain Rajat Patidar, the team enjoyed a dream run. Star players Virat Kohli and Josh Hazlewood played key roles in the triumph, with Kohli scoring 657 runs in 15 matches and Hazlewood taking 22 wickets in 12 games.

RCB was not lucky to hold the coveted IPL trophy on its first occasion over a long period of eighteen years. This season was historic as they beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the final match.

They completed second since the league stage and this was an unforgettable season to them. They capped PBKS to 184/7 having executed a good final score of 190/9.

In the meantime, the Women team won the title of the franchise. They also became WPL 2024 champions and beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets in the final. They had knocked out DC in 113 and pursued the target in 19.3 overs.
