South Africa took command of the second Test against India with a splendid bowling display on day three at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday, November 24. They closed on 26/0 in their second innings with a lead of 314 runs and two days to play.
The hosts started the day on 9/0 in response to South Africa’s mammoth first innings tally of 489. South Africa bowlers stuck to their task and dismissed India for a paltry 201 in 83.5 overs. And Marco Jansen was the star of the show for them with the ball taking six wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal (58), Washington Sundar (48) and a few other batsmen fought hard but failed to change the fortunes of their team.

South African pacer Marco Jansen spoke after stumps on the third day of the second Test, saying (via cricbuzz):
“There’s obviously nice pace and bounce in the wicket. Not a lot of nip or swing, a little bit here at the end. Once we saw there was a bit of bounce and better pace in the wicket, we tried to utilize that. Obviously a good day for the chaps and for myself in particular. But yeah, I feel the spinners did a really good job when the ball wasn’t moving as much and there was a dead period at some stage.”
He continued:
“I really feel the spinners did a brilliant job and I’m just lucky to be the one who cashed in. Who said we didn’t fight hard? Like I said, there was a bit of pace and bounce in the wicket, which was nice. We did think we were probably going to field, or we were preparing to field, for at least two days. The boys did a really good job today.”
