India won the Super Eight match by 72 runs against Zimbabwe in Chennai in the MA Chidambaram Stadium during the T20 world cup 2026 on February 26. The captain of Zimbabwe Sikandar Raza won the toss and chose to send his team to the field to bowl first, hoping they would get early support. India effected two substitutions where it substituted Rinku Singh and Washington Sundar with Sanju Samson and Axar Patel.
Batting one, the Men in Blue had a colossal 256/4 in 20 overs. Samson recorded 24 out of 15 balls and Abhishek Sharma made a 72 run partnership in 42 balls in the second wicket with Ishan Kishan. Kishan made a contribution of 38 out of 24 deliveries. Abhishek who had earlier made three straight ducks in the tournament came back with a bang with a torching 55 off 30 balls hitting four fours and four sixes with a strike rate of 183.33.
This was followed by a rush attack on 33 off 13 balls by Suryakumar Yadav. The last-minute charge was triggered by Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma whose 84-run partnership in 31 balls made the fifth wicket. Pandya was not caught out of 50 which he hit on 23 balls, including two fours and four sixes, and Tilak was left on 44 not out on 16 deliveries. The local bowlers in four Wiki bowlers in Zimbabwe divided the wickets.
India Thrash Zimbabwe as South Africa Seal Semi-Final Spot
In response, Zimbabwe scored 184/6 within 20 overs. Opener Brian Bennett struggled hard with an unexampled 97 off 59 balls, eight fours and six sixes at a rate of 164.41. He also had a 72-run partnership with Sikandar Raza in the third wicket. But the aim was too high. The bowling effort by Indian team was headed by Arshdeep Singh with 3/24 and the remaining bowlers contributed with three each.
Zimbabwe lost the tournament with this outcome, and South Africa qualified to the semi-finals. India will host West Indies on 1 st March at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and Zimbabwe will play South Africa at the Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi.
