On Thursday, February 26, India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs in a T20 world cup 2026 match. The match was played in MA Chidambaram Stadium located in Chennai. This victory places the Men in Blue in the competition to make it to the semifinals.

India batted first and made a humongous total of 256/4 on board against 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma opened the tone with a ball 55 of 30 balls. Arshdeep also has the highest wicket haul with 35 by a left arm pacer in the history of the tournament surpassing the 34 wickets by Trent Boult.

Their total of 17 sixes in their innings is the most ever by a team in one T20 World Cup innings, and is the same number that they had hit against Australia in Gros Islet in the 2024 edition.

Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav each hit two sixes and Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma each hit four sixes. Ishan Kishan also hit a six. Every batter that batted against Zimbabwe in the Men in Blue ran feast hit at least one six in Chennai.

Their best performance in T20 World Cup is 256/4 in India. The Men in Blue also reached their highest score of 218/4 which they had scored on top of England in the first edition in 2007.

It is also the largest number of the T20 World Cup 2026. They had surpassed the West Indies, who had beaten 254/6 off Zimbabwe in the few days gone by in Mumbai.

Additionally, it is also the second-highest overall in the history of T20 World Cup. The largest team score in the history of the tournament is that of Sri Lanka who scored 260/6 against Kenya in 2007. The Men in Blue were unlucky to fall short of the record.
