Arshdeep Singh, an Indian fast bowler, was fined 15% of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct on Sunday, March 8, during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Final in Ahmedabad versus New Zealand.
Arshdeep was found to have violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel that addresses the question of throwing a ball (or any other object of cricket equipment) in an inappropriate and/or dangerous way during an International Match. Moreover, since this was the first instance of violation in 24 months of his life, there has been one demerit point on his discipline record.
As Arshdeep took the ball on his follow through during the eleventh over of the New Zealand innings, he threw the ball hard and against the law and hit the batter, Daryl Mitchell, on the pads.

No formal hearing was necessary since Arshdeep Singh admitted the punishment proposed by Andy Pycroft of Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees upon apologizing to Mitchell at the end of the over and post-match. Third umpire Allahuddien Paleker, fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock and on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, charged him.
Arshdeep Singh Penalised Under ICC Level 1 Code of Conduct
Level I penalties attract one or two demerit points, a fine of in any case an official reprimand and a fine of at most half the match fee of a player.
To the ignorant, a player is not allowed to play when he/she has four or more demerits within a 24 month. These are translated to suspension points. A two-point suspended player will not be allowed to play one Test, two ODIs, two T20Is, whichever may be the first one. Upon imposition, the Demerit Points will remain on the disciplinary record of a player or player support personnel during twenty-four (24) months before being deleted.

In the 2026 T20 World Cup, Arshdeep, the leading wicket-taker in the Indian twenty-two overs cricket, got nine wickets in eight games and at a rate of 8.46 and an average of 28.22.
