Suryakumar Yadav of India is presented with the trophy by Jay Shah, Chairman of the ICC after victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup India & Sri Lanka 2026 Final

During his time as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC), made the shocking admission that he had never participated in any news leaks through any media outlets. Shah has stated that during his current tenure with the ICC, he also adheres to similar practices.

Notably, there is a rumor in journalism circles that Shah has media friends who obtain news and leak it before it is officially announced. Nevertheless, the ICC chairman immediately dispelled the rumor and denied the media’s assertions.

“I have never leaked any news to any reporter during my tenure as BCCI Secretary or as ICC Chairman. I respect the Chair,” Shah said at the SJFI Convention.

2019 to 2026 is a golden period for Indian team: Jay Shah

Jay Shah also discussed how the past seven years have been the most successful for the Indian team across all age categories and genders at the same event, which took place in New Delhi. He considered how various Indian teams had won numerous trophies during this time, with the men’s team taking home an incredible three ICC crowns (two T20 World Cups and a Champions Trophy).

“2019 to 2026, this period proved to be very important for the BCCI and India. We won two U19 Women’s tournaments. We won two U19 Men’s tournaments. We were runners-up twice in the World Test Championship. We were runners-up once in the ODI World Cup. We won the T20 World Cup twice. And we also won the Champions Trophy. That is why the period from 2019 to 2026 proved to be golden years for all of us,” Shah said.

One of the most important administrators of both Indian and international cricket is Shah. Pay parity for male and female cricket players was one of the ground-breaking initiatives he introduced while serving as BCCI secretary. Similar to the IPL, he also founded the Women’s Premier League, which has seen tremendous growth in popularity since its first season in 2023.
