Shaheen Shah Afridi, a left-arm pacer for Pakistan, made headlines following a tense encounter during a recent captains’ press conference prior to the Pakistan Super League 2026. Afridi was clearly irritated by a journalist’s questioning about Pakistan cricket.
Afridi was questioned about the national team’s recent difficulties during the conversation, a subject that has received a lot of attention in the wake of their subpar results. But the left-arm quick quickly put an end to the question and returned attention to the league.

“Don’t ask about Pakistan. We are currently playing the Pakistan Super League (PSL), so ask questions on PSL only. When we will be playing for Pakistan, then you can ask questions about Pakistan, and we will answer those questions,” clearly irritated, Afridi responded.

🚨 Pakistani journalist COOKS Shaheen Shah Afridi and Babar Azam
Bro really woke up and chose violence! 😭
The man openly questioned Babar’s T20 strike rate and asked if he even deserves his spot as a T20 player, then immediately went after Shaheen’s captaincy credentials. 💀 pic.twitter.com/5HrkwdbGYX
— Brutal Truth (@sarkarstix) March 25, 2026 The same journalist also interviewed Babar Azam prior to the upcoming PSL season to find out his plans in the backdrop of Babar Azam not being included in the T20I squad of Pakistan. The popular cricket player however chose to ignore the question.
Shaheen Afridi Turns Attention to PSL Amid National Team Pressure
When Afridi was under his mandatory media commitments at PSL, he decided to avoid the topic entirely, emphasizing the growing stress on Pakistani players in the face of UAE team criticism. Although the discussions on the national team remain in the limelight, now Afridi and his colleagues would seek to shift their focus to franchise performances when PSL 2026 is launched.

Shaheen Afridi is an incredibly successful captain of the Lahore Qalandars and has had a tremendous success despite being criticized on the performance with the Pakistani national team. His leadership has seen the team perform well and Afridi is the first captain in the history of the competition to win three trophies. And prior to putting yet another trophy on the mantelpiece by the successful 2025 campaign, he took the Qalandars to back-to-back championships in both 2022 and 2023.
All PSL 2026 matches will be played in closed-door games between March 26 and May 3, 2026, in a couple of venues, Gaddafi stadium, Lahore and National Bank stadium, Karachi.
