Former colleagues MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar had a laugh-filled moment during their individual training sessions ahead of the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23, in the 2026 Indian Premier League.
By doing this, the former captain of India unintentionally reproduced a famous viral video from 20 years ago in which he is shown being camera shy.
Chahar approaches Dhoni for a casual meeting in the video that MI shared on social media, but the CSK great asks the cameraman to step aside so they can have a conversation.
“You came along with a camera… get him out of here. Yes, otherwise we won’t be ablee to talk,” Dhoni was caught saying to Chahar at the Wankhede Stadium.

When a buddy of Dhoni’s attempted to record the wicketkeeper-batter nearly two decades ago, he unintentionally said the same thing. The right-handed hitter in the grainy old video tape requested that the video recorder take a picture rather than record him.
“Please take a photo. I won’t be able to speak whilst being recorded,” Dhoni said in the old clip.
Dhoni’s banter with Chahar, along with the old footage, can be seen below:

— Haydos🛡️ (@GovindIstSTH) April 22, 2026 At CSK, Dhoni and Chahar were longtime teammates. During his six seasons with Chepauk, the right-arm seamer played 76 games while wearing the recognizable yellow shirt and claimed 78 wickets. Additionally, the pair was a member of three IPL winning teams: in 2018, 2021, and most recently, 2023.

Although Chahar and Dhoni both played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017, the fast bowler only made five appearances for the team.
On Thursday, MI and CSK will square off. Both teams are in dire need of a victory to get their seasons going and make a last-ditch effort to qualify for the playoffs. After six games in the 2026 season, both teams have four points apiece.
