In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Varun Chakravarthy, the seasoned spinner for KKR, is especially eager to make an impression against Virat Kohli, the seasoned batter for RCB.
Varun Chakravarthy has had little success against Virat Kohli, despite finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2024 Indian Premier League with 21 wickets. He has only been able to fire the former RCB captain once in their seven encounters.
Varun Chakravarthy told the media prior to the start of the season:
“Definitely excited to be coming up against Virat bhai. Obviously, he has batted well against me, and I want to do well against him.”

The spinner also emphasized how crucial it is to prepare thoroughly for the IPL.
“Anyone at this level cannot be considered an easy opposition. Every team in the IPL is as good as the other. RCB has a quality squad, but we have done our homework. I have done mine too.”

He alluded to certain new modifications but did not disclose specific plans against RCB.
“Obviously, I have a few deliveries up my sleeve, but execution will depend on match conditions,” he added.
‘Sunil Narine is a legend of the game’: Varun Chakravarthy

KKR relied heavily on the 38 wickets accrued by Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy to win their recent title. The West Indies all-rounder received many compliments from Varun about his participation.
“I don’t need to compliment him—he’s a legend of the game. He was the MVP last year, and we’ve had a few conversations this season. He looks well-prepared and ready to take on the IPL, just like last year.”

Ajinkya Rahane has assumed the role of captain since Shreyas Iyer left KKR. The spinner talked about their conversations and his responsibilities under the new management.
“We have a new captain this time, and he has spoken to me about where I can be most effective. I have also conveyed my input. Whenever my captain wants me to bowl, I am ready—whether in the powerplay, middle overs, or at the death.”
