Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill have a look at each other's teams

On Tuesday, March 25, the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) kicked off their IPL 2025 campaigns at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. To earn two important points, the Punjab team captained by Shreyas Iyer defeated Gujarat by 11 runs.

GT chose to field first after winning the toss. With opener Prabhsimran Singh leaving for five in the fourth over, PBKS’ innings got off to a rough start. Iyer took the Gujarat bowlers to the cleaners with a captain’s knock for his team.

At 97 off just 42 balls, the right-handed batter was still undefeated after hitting nine sixes and five fours. His final strike rate of 230.95 was astounding. Many were also pleased by Priyansh Arya, the debutant opening batsman, who scored 47 runs in 23 balls.

Shashank Singh delivered an outstanding finishing blow in the latter part of the innings through his remarkable batting performances. His remarkable innings ended with 44* runs because he faced 16 balls at a 275 strike rate. The outstanding batting performance of Iyer and Shashank contributed to PBKS scoring 243/5 runs in the match.

During the GT innings the best bowler Sai Kishore bowled four consecutive wicketless overs while conceding only thirty runs and taking three wickets. Gill and Sudharsan started the home team’s batting effort by collecting sixty-one runs.

While Sudharsan achieved a brilliant half-century, Gill was removed after scoring 33 runs off 14 balls. With 74 runs in 41 balls, the southpaw was his team’s top scorer.

1. Shashank Singh Destroys Siraj in the Final Over as PBKS Posts 243/5

The pivotal 20th over of PBKS’ innings was bowled by Mohammed Siraj. At 97*, Shreyas Iyer was at the other end, while Shashank Singh was on strike. Punjab had other ideas, despite the fact that many anticipated the batter would take a single and allow Iyer to reach his ton.

Shashank used his hitting to dismantle Siraj. In the other, the daring batter hit a double and a wide and five fours. He scored 23 runs from the last over to help his team end the match on a good note.

In a later mid-inning interview, the 33-year-old would say that Iyer encouraged him to take huge strokes and told him not to worry about his century. He used some amazing strokes, and Siraj was forced to take the brunt of the attack.

2 Glenn Maxwell doesn’t review his LBW dismissal, ball tracking shows ball would have missed the stumps

Glenn Maxwell of Punjab Kings looks on during the 2025 IPL match

When Glenn Maxwell returned to PBKS, he was a batting failure. Against GT, the Australian white-ball standout scored a golden duck. In the game’s eleventh over, he walked out to bat.

Off the bowling direct of Sai Kishore, the seasoned hitter attempted the reverse sweep. The complete ball struck his pad after he missed it. Maxwell chose not to contest the on-field umpire’s decision to rule it out.

Tough luck for Maxwell! 😕

Ball tracking shows it was going over, but he's given out LBW.

But he would have lived if he had taken the review. The ball was going over the stumps, according to ball tracking.

3 Rahul Tewatia’s brilliant fielding effort to save a six

Gujarat Titans’ Rahul Tewatia during the Indian Premier League Match

Rahul Tewatia saved four runs for his team with an outstanding fielding performance. Shreyas Iyer blasted a lofted shot off a full-length delivery from Prasidh Krishna on the last ball of the 17th over in the PBKS innings.

For a maximum, the ball appeared to be heading over the long-on fence. Tewatia sprang and made a spectacular catch. He threw the ball inside after realizing he was going to cross the boundary line.

Brilliant fielding on the boundary! 🔥 Tewatia at long-on saves a six and keeps it to just 2 runs. Top effort! 💪#PBKSvsGT #TATAIPL2025 #IPL2025 #Ahmedabad pic.twitter.com/EqixGkJZaZ

After several replays, the third umpire decided not to call Tewatia’s leg a six even though it looked like it had struck the cushion. Only two more runs were added to the total after the PBKS batters had completed a double.
