Gujarat Titans (GT) veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fees for violating the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during a match against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, April 6, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. He has also been given a demerit point for his violation.
Following Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi, who has been fined twice for his notorious “notebook” celebration, the pacer is the second player to get disciplinary action in the current season.
The specifics of the possible violation are yet unknown, but following match referee Javagal Srinath’s decision, the governing board issued a statement on Monday, April 7, confirming the penalty.
“Ishant Sharma, Bowler, Gujarat Titans has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday.”
Ishant Sharma
“Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma developed a notorious reputation through many years which led to his questionable disciplinary record. The veteran repeatedly received fines on international competitions because of his repeated fights during matches.
He was fined 65% of his match earnings for violating the ICC Code of Conduct twice during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2017. In addition, the 36-year-old bowler received a fine for his boisterous celebrations during India’s 2018 visit of England’s Birmingham Test. He was also fined 15% for his incident with Kamran Akmal during the first Twenty20 International match against Pakistan in Bengaluru in 2012.
Ishant Sharma’s 0-53 Performance on a Tough Wicket Against SRH in IPL 2025

In their seven-wicket victory away from home, GT’s right-arm bowler had a disappointing performance. With the ball, the Shubman Gill-led team was in control, while Mohammed Siraj (4/17) and Sai Kishore (2/24) maintained their strong play. Ishant Sharma, however, gave up 53 runs in four overs without taking a wicket, making his performance memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Rashid Khan, who gave up 31 runs in his four overs, was the next most costly bowler for GT with an economy rate of 7.75. His rate was 13.25.
GT management called Ishant to play after the first match when they replaced Arshad Khan and he secured his spot on the bowling staff through the campaign. The expensive bowling performance from Ishant resulted in 27 runs over two overs but he successfully dismissed Rajat Patidar during GT’s match against RCB.
