In the current IPL 2025 match between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI), 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre showed off by hitting Ashwani Kumar for 16 runs off of three deliveries. On Sunday, April 20, the two teams will play each other in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
After regular captain and batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad missed the rest of the season due to a hairline fracture to his elbow, Mhatre was selected for the Chennai Super Kings team. Mhatre joined the team in Mumbai because he was unavailable for their most recent match in Lucknow.

He walked out to bat at number three on his domestic home field for his IPL debut, wasted no time, and hit a single off the first ball. He then attacked Ashwani Kumar, the pacer for the Mumbai Indians, hitting him for a boundary and two more to get 17 runs off his first four deliveries.
Here’s how he defeated Ashwani:

With 32 runs in 15 deliveries, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre made a stunning start. He was replaced in the middle by Ravindra Jadeja, who became the second CSK batsman to be removed that evening.

CSK lost the early wicket of Rachin Ravindra (5 off 9) after being asked to bat first. Then, before Ayush Mhatre was removed, he and Shaikh Rasheed (19 off 20) combined for 41 runs for the second wicket. Soon after, Rasheed came up and reduced CSK to 63-3 in eight overs.
In 13 overs, CSK was 92/3 at the time of writing. In the center were Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja.
