Ishan Kishan of the Mumbai Indians (MI) was chastised by fans for his significant error in Wednesday’s Match 41 of the IPL 2025 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Hyderabad. Notably, the umpire raised his finger when Kishan left the field without edging the ball.
After winning the toss, MI asked SRH to bat first. The host team got off to a poor start as Trent Boult removed their star batsman Travis Head for a four-ball duck in the second over.
Kishan seemed to have edged a delivery down the leg side bowled by Deepak Chahar in the next over. Without awaiting the umpire’s call, the southpaw left right away.
It’s interesting to note that the MI players lacked confidence in their appeal, but the umpire declared Kishan out after observing him leave the field. Replays, however, showed that the ball entered the keeper’s hands without coming into contact with Kishan’s bat or gloves. He was only able to score one goal out of four, continuing his season-long poor play.

Ishan Kishan’s brain fade moment was widely ridiculed by fans, one of them brought up his seven-year tenure with MI:
“Ishan Kishan still playing for Mumbai Indians.”
Here are the other reactions:
“What’s happening? SRH is imploding, and it’s totally inexplicable. Can anyone explain why Ishan Kishan walked? There was hardly any appeal from the fielding side, and the replay shows no sign of an edge. We appreciate a batsman “walking,” but only when they’re 100% sure,” one user posted.
“What exactly went down with Ishan Kishan’s dismissal? He looked almost too eager to walk off, didn’t even consider a review. Meanwhile, the umpire looked just as eager to raise the finger, even though neither the bowler nor the keeper actually appealed,” another tweeted.
“How dumb is Ishan Kishan seriously…. Spirit of cricket for being stupid,” a user wrote.
How did Ishan Kishan perform for Mumbai Indians in IPL?

Ishan Kishan started his IPL career when Gujarat Lions fielded him in 2016. Mumbai Indians purchased him through the IPL 2018 auction following his two-year franchise participation.
Kishan showcased his batting talent through 516 runs at 57.33 average and a striking pace of 145.76 with four fifty scores during the 2020 season. The combination of his batting strokes secured a title victory for MI in their fourth championship run.
Both years 2022 and 2023 brought strong performance results from Kishan through his batting (418 runs in 2022 and 454 runs in 2023). The squad released him after he scored 320 runs in 2024 IPL with an average of 22.85. Throughout his innings Kishan scored 2,325 runs while hitting fifteen fifty scores for the franchise.

SRH signed Ishan Kishan for ₹11.25 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. Kishan, who scored 139 runs in eight innings after smashing a century in the opening game, has had trouble contributing to the team.
