Sam Curran of Oval Invincibles celebrates taking the wicket of Richard Gleeson of London Spirit (not pictured) during the The Hundred match

Sam Curran utterly confused Richard Gleeson with a 75.64 kph (47 mph) moon ball during Match 1 of The Hundred Men’s 2025 between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles. Gleeson (three off six) was the hosts’ penultimate wicket at Lord’s.

Gleeson, bowling from the left-arm side, was unable to connect with Curran’s loopy delivery, which took an age to pass the wild hoic of the willow before striking the base of the off stump. Sam Curran took his third wicket of the day, bringing his total to 3/18 from 19 deliveries.

Interestingly, Gleeson was not the first Spirit player to succumb to a lack of pace. Earlier in the match, Ashton Turner (21 off 14) died while attempting to hit a similar dipping slower ball for a maximum. All he could do was find Rashid Khan behind the deep mid-wicket fence.

The Invincibles were easily capable of an undisturbed win by six wickets and 31 balls to spare as the home team could only score 80 off 94 balls. Rashid was adjudged player of the match following his bowling performance 3/11 in 20 overs and the contributions he provided in the field where he took three catches.

Skipper Sam Billings (6* off 3) and Donovan Ferreira (9* off 5) led their side to win. They will next face Manchester Originals at The Oval on Saturday, August 9.
