AB de Villiers looks on ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup India 2023

Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers discussed how difficult the Bronco test is. Following multiple reports indicating that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to implement a fitness test for Indian cricket players, he made these remarks.

According to De Villiers, he has taken the Bronco test several times during his career. In high-altitude settings, he said, his lungs would occasionally burn during the test.

In his most recent video on YouTube, the 41-year-old stated:

“It’s one of the worst you can do. Very clearly remember at the University of Pretoria, also at SuperSport Park, in the cold winter mornings of South Africa, in particular, where there’s not a lot of oxygen, the altitude here is, I think, 1,500 meters above sea level. So, not a lot of oxygen, and those lungs would burn.”

“There is no need to change something that is working” – R Ashwin reacts to India’s plan of introducing the Bronco test

R Ashwin, a former spinner for India, criticized the BCCI for implementing the Bronco test. According to him, there is no need for a change because there is nothing wrong with the current fitness test.

For a seamless transfer, he also believed that Adrian Le Roux, the recently hired strength and conditioning coach, had to have collaborated with the previous coach. ‘Ash Ki Baat’ is his YouTube channel. Ashwin stated (through The Times of India):

“I just want to raise some questions. As a player, the problem is one of continuity. I would really like some continuity. It is important to give that. Whenever a new trainer comes in, he should work with the outgoing trainer for six months to one year to give the handover. There is no need to change something that is working. If something is working, then it needs to be discussed and then changed.”

Former Indian cricket players’ responses to the BCCI’s intentions for the fitness test have been conflicting. Manoj Tiwary went so far as to assert that the exam was instituted in order to exclude some members of Team India.
