India's Abhishek Sharma plays a shot during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four Twenty20 international cricket match

Team India opener Abhishek Sharma sister, Komal, and mother, Manju, expressed their delight after the left-hander’s performance against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match on Sunday in Dubai. They were amazed by his first-ball six, but they are already accustomed to it, Komal remarked.

On Sunday in Dubai, the teenager, who opened the innings with a six against the UAE on September 10, repeated the feat against Shaheen Shah Afridi. The southpaw assisted the ball over the fine-leg boundary after Afridi bowled a bouncer. With six wickets remaining, India hammered 172 thanks to his incredible 74 off just 39 deliveries, which was peppered with six fours and five sixes.

Speaking on a video that journalist Vimal Kumar posted, the sister of Abhishek stated:

“Hume itna maza aaya. Woh jo first ball pe jo usne chakka maar diya na. Aadat ho gayi hai ab hume (We enjoyed so much, especially when he hit the first ball for a six. We are used to it now).

According to the 25-year-old’s mother, it was her second game and she loved it just as much as the Twenty20 International match against England in February of this year, in which he blasted 135 runs. She stated:

“Abhishek ne jab pehle ball pe chakka maara toh bahut maza aaya. Kise maara? Sab jaante hain. Bahut maza aaya. Yeh doosra mera match hai. Pehla maine dekha tha England ke khilaaf, usne 135 kiye aur yeh mera second international match hai. Isme bhi accha kiya usne. Bahut accha kiya, bahut maza aaya.”

“(When Abhishek hit the first ball for a six, we enjoyed so much. Who did he hit it against? Everyone knows. This is my second match. The first was against England, he made 135 then and this is my second international match. He did well in this too, we enjoyed a lot).”

“Like Fire and Ice” – Suryakumar Yadav Praises Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill

India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill for their complementary styles during the post-match presentation. According to ESPNcricinfo, he stated:

“It’s like a fire-and-ice combination. They complement each other really well. And that’s what I want to see. If someone is batting brilliantly, the other can take the back-seat and rotate the strike. It was required today to have a very good start. And they did (provide that).”
