Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian T20I team captain, has lamented that he had not gotten a chance to represent the international team under the captainship of MS Dhoni. Surykumar was included in the India team in March 2021, approximately two years since the last international match of Dhoni.
Suryakumar Yadav entered into the commentary of the kind of qualities he had been able to observe in MS Dhoni when he played him in the Indian Premier League. He told about how he liked the ability of Dhoni to cool down under pressure.
“Firstly, I always wanted to get an opportunity when he was the captain of India. But I never got it. I saw him behind the stumps whenever I played against him. He has been very cool. One thing that I have learned from him when I played against him is to stay relaxed in all pressure situations, he looks around the game, sees around what is happening and then takes a call,” shared Suryakumar while speaking at JITO Connect 2025.

“Then Rohit bhai (brother), under whom I played a lot of cricket for the IPL franchise and India. He is someone who gets everyone comfortable around them, an inspiration to all youngsters. His door was open 24/7 for everyone. That’s a different quality which I learnt from him and also from the other captains.”

It is worth noting that Shubman Gill has lately replaced Rohit as India’s new ODI captain. Gill will take over full-time captaincy in the upcoming series against Australia. Rohit, who has already retired from T20Is and Tests, had a 75% victory rate in ODIs, winning 42 of the 56 games he led India to.
Suryakumar was a member of India’s triumphant T20 World Cup squad. He just guided India to the Asia Cup 2025 title. Many former cricketers and journalists praised his powerful captaincy, despite the fact that he did not make any runs.
