India's captain Rohit Sharma tosses the ball during the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup one-day international (ODI) final match

Rohit Sharma, the star Indian batman, has at last provided an answer to the question that many fans have been posing since several months: would Rohit Sharma be taking part in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit in a recent interaction with a Make-A-Wish child said that he was willing to compete in the upcoming 50 over world cup.

The future of Rohit in ODIs has become a topic of great concern after he retired in T20Is following the 2024 world cup victory of India and quitting Test Cricket in May this year. The 38 year old complained that he has business to complete with the format.

Rohit Sharma came very close to winning the ODI World Cup in 2023, but India lost to Australia in the final despite his brilliant captaincy and attacking starts at the top. Now, the ODI captaincy has moved to Shubman Gill, but both Rohit and Virat Kohli are set to return for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Fans are eager to see Rohit back in action after a short break from international cricket.

The three game ODI series will start on the 19th of October at the Optus Stadium in Perth. This will be the initial appearance of Rohit after bringing India to the champions trophy title earlier this year. It has been reported that he has trained so hard on his fitness and has lost almost 10 kilograms in the course of his training with his former India assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar. His metamorphosis has astonished both the fans and professionals.

Once in Perth Rohit did not lose any time and as soon as possible was amongst the first to strike at the net. He and Kohli were present at the optional training process, even after a flight delay, on the very first day and batted long hours. The following day, Rohit worked on his timing and attended fielding drills. He was also observed to have had in-depth talks with head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Shubman Gill in readying to face the challenge.
