India narrowly won a Super Over match by a nail-biting result over Sri Lanka in Dubai and this has given the final stage of the Asia Cup 2025 a perfect lead-up. It appeared to be a regular match but it ended up being one of the most exciting matches in the tournament. India was already assured of a place in the final and therefore made a few changes by resting Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dube.
Sri Lanka, who wanted to give the opposition a good farewell, chose to take the opening turn having won the toss. Young opener Abhishek Sharma of India, who had been in excellent form, followed up with 61 more runs off only 31 balls, including eight fours and 2 sixes to give the innings a flying start.

Tilak Varma led the innings with an unbeaten 49 and Sanju Samson contributed with a fast 39 after his dismissal. The useful 21 off 15 balls by Axar Patel helped India cross the 200-run mark and they ended at 202/5, the highest score of the tournament thus far.
Sri Lanka’s chase was powered by Pathum Nissanka, who scored a brilliant 107 off 58 balls with seven fours and six sixes — marking his maiden T20I century. He received strong support from Kusal Perera, who smashed 58 off 32, as the pair added 127 runs for the second wicket to keep Sri Lanka in the contest. However, quick wickets in the final overs slowed their momentum and made the finish tense.

With 12 runs needed in the final over, Harshit Rana struck early by dismissing Nissanka on the very first ball. Dasun Shanaka struggled but managed to reduce the target to three off the final delivery. However, Sri Lanka fell short by the narrowest of margins, finishing on 202/5, which forced a Super Over to decide the game.
During the tie-breaker, Sri Lanka surprisingly sent in Perera and Shanaka instead of Nissanka. Yet, Arshdeep Singh easily dismissed both, conceding only two runs each. India then required three runs to win, and Suryakumar Yadav, the captain, calmly punched Wanindu Hasaranga to the boundary off the first ball, securing the victory for his team.
