Shamim Hossain suffered a rough day against Varun Chakaravarthy in the Asia cup 2025 Super Four match between India and Bangladesh in the Dubai international cricket stadium. Bangladesh were in distress at 65/3 in the 10 th over, trying to chase 169, when Shamim came in to join Saif Hassan, hoping to form a vital partnership.
But the left-hander’s stay was cut short almost immediately. Facing Varun Chakaravarthy, Shamim attempted to create room and drive a quicker delivery through the off-side. However, the ball skidded on with the angle from round the wicket, missing his bat and rattling the leg stump.

Shamim was dismissed for a three-ball duck, leaving Bangladesh in deeper trouble. His wicket highlighted Chakaravarthy’s accuracy under pressure and proved to be another setback for Bangladesh in their faltering chase.

Bangladesh never took off in their pursuit and were bowled out with 127 in 19.3 overs, even though India lost five catches in the dark in Dubai. Saif Hassan attempted to put a fight back with 69 off 51 balls among them three fours and five sixes but the wickets fell around him. Kuldeep Yadav got the best of the bowlers with a 3/18 bowling and Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy bowled two wickets each to close the innings.
The innings of India were accelerated by Abhishek Sharma who scored a scorching 75 out of a total of 37 balls and his fifty came in a total of 25 balls only. He later ran out but his innings proved to be the set of things in India and he received the Player of the Match award. This triumph gave India an entry into the final of Sunday against the victor of the Thursday game between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
