Pathum Nissanka of Sri Lanka bats during the Asia Cup match

Pathum Nissanka lit up the Asia Cup clash with a stunning century against India in Dubai, but one of his sixes created unexpected damage. In the 11th over, he smashed Harshit Rana’s slower ball flat over mid-wicket, and it crashed straight into a sponsored car parked beyond the boundary, leaving a visible dent. The moment quickly went viral on social media.

Nissanka made a push but it was not enough to bring Sri Lanka to the line even with his brilliant knock. The game was now a Super Over and in this dramatic finale; India managed to keep their nerves intact to win the match leaving Nissanka and the heroic innings on the losing side.

India Clinches Thrilling Victory in Super Over

Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka (L) kisses his helmet as he celebrates after scoring his century (100-run) during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four Twenty20 international cricket match

Pathum Nissanka was at his best, smashing his maiden T20I hundred in just 52 balls. He scored 107 off 58 deliveries with seven fours and six sixes, breaking Virat Kohli’s record for most 50-plus scores in Asia Cup history. He also set a new Sri Lankan record for the highest T20I score, going past Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 104.

The opener rearranged Harshit Rana, and made 34 of him alone, and had a 127 partnership with Kusal Perera, who scored 58 of 32. India had previously registered 202/5 on the rear of Abhishek Sharma 61, Tilak Varma 49, and Sanju Samson 39 and was in a good position despite frequent wickets.

Sri Lanka kept fighting in the chase with Nissanka and Perera leading the way, but the game turned in the final over. With 12 needed, Harshit Rana struck immediately by removing Nissanka, and despite Dasun Shanaka’s late effort, the scores were tied at 202, sending the match into a Super Over.

During the tie-breaker, Sri Lanka took a very odd decision not to send Nissanka. Perera and Shanaka instead faced Arshdeep Singh who sent both home and had conceded only two runs. India had required three and Suryakumar Yadav got it with a boundary using the first ball and brought his team to the house.
