Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians bats during the 2025 Eliminator IPL Finals match

The Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off in the IPL 2025 Eliminator on Friday, May 30, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. To get to the Qualifier 2, MI, captained by Hardik Pandya, won the match by 20 runs.

The Mumbai based side elected to bat first and got their start with a flying start. The openers Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow then fired with an 84 run opening partnership in 44 balls.

With the bat, Sharma was the top performer for Mumbai in the must win encounter getting 81 runs off 50 balls. Bairstow fell agonisingly short of a half century, bowled for 47 from 22 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 20), Tilak Varma (25 off 11), and Hardik Pandya (22* off 9) contributed crucial cameos as Mumbai scored 228/5 in 20 overs. Mohammed Siraj took one wicket, while Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna both took two.

Gujarat’s run chase got off to a miserable start with skipper Shubman Gill bowled out in the first over. It was the usual imperious run of Sai Sudharsan, who played a match winning knock in the high pressure game.

The southpaw got on 80 runs of 49 balls. Washington Sundar meanwhile hit a quick fire knock of 48 from 24 deliveries. But their efforts all went in vain as the side missed out from winning at 208/6 after 20 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah produced another outstanding spell, Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians

The best bowler was Jasprit Bumrah, who had statistics of 4-0-27-1. Sharma’s outstanding batting performances earned him the title of Player of the Match.

Mumbai will now meet Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, June 1. Gujarat, however, has been knocked out of the competition.

On that topic, let’s take a look at three moments that caused buzz among fans during the IPL 2025 Eliminator:

1. Hardik Pandya attacks Gerald Coetzee in the final over for Mumbai Indians

Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians plays a shot during the 2025 Eliminator IPL Finals match

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya made an exciting cameo towards the end of their innings. In the last over, he controlled the action against speedster Gerald Coetzee.

Pandya hit the ball for a spectacular six on the second ball of the over. The daring batsman cleared the mid-wicket fence with another maximum on the fourth ball.

Pandya scored his third maximum of the over by blasting the final ball over the long-off boundary. Mumbai eventually amassed 22 runs from the final six balls of their innings after the bowler hit three wides in the over.

2. Sai Sudharsan and Gerald Coetzee take stunning relay catch to remove Jonny Bairstow

Sai Sudharsan of Gujrat Titans (L) and Gerald Coetzee of Gujrat Titans celebrates after taking the wicket of Jonny Bairstow

Sai Sudharsan and Gerald Coetzee struck with the fielding, ending Jonny Bairstow’s blitz. Mumbai opener went out for the reverse sweep on the second ball of the eighth over against Sai Kishore.

Sai Sudharsan leapt into the air and got a hand to the ball which went towards the point region. But the ball came off of his hand and into the air. Bairstow went back to the pavilion after Coetzee completed the relay catch.

Here is a video of the catch:

3. Jasprit Bumrah sends Washington Sundar back with perfect yorker

Mumbai Indians’ Richard Gleeson (C) celebrates with teammate Jasprit Bumrah (R) after taking the wicket of Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan (L)

Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar put Gujarat in front with an 84-run stand in 44 balls for the third wicket. They scored runs quickly, threatening to steal the game from MI.

In the 14th over, Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya threw the ball to ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the hopes of making a breakthrough. Bumrah delivered for his side by getting rid of the well-set Sundar.

He delivered an excellent yorker on the fourth ball. The unique delivery utterly undid Sundar, and he was unable to get his bat down in time. The all-rounder’s powerful innings came to an end when the ball crashed onto the stumps.

Two moments of brilliance ⚡️

Were these two the defining moments of the #Eliminator? 🤔

The wicket marked a significant turning point in the game, as the pendulum swung in Mumbai’s favor.
