The coach of South Africa, Shukri Conrad, has made a statement before his team plays a crucial Super 8 against India in the ICC Men 2026 world cup in T20 cricket indicating that he sees the mounting pressure on the hosts as a chance to destabilize them.
The Proteas, who made it to the Super 8 after a fantastic group phase performance are now gearing to take on the defending champions in what Conrad terms as the biggest encounter in the competition as yet. Shukri Conrad was candid on the mood that existed in the Indian camp and so, there might be expectations and scrutiny of his home fans to the advantage of South Africa.

“Pressure is a big thing but it’s pressure both for us and them. I think we all talk about the pressure of playing against the top side, but we’re not quite aware of what the pressures they are under. I’m not, for one, suggesting that a guy that has three ducks in his last three matches comes under pressure for his place in his side. No,” Conrad was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

His remarks come as India prepares to host the 2024 T20 World Cup finals for a Super 8 match on February 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The 58-year-old also discussed how he is preparing for the match, stating that he is not a huge fan of matchups and believes they are an overdone idea. South Africa is expected to face India’s left-handed batting lineup.
“The match-ups can be overstated. I’m not a big fan of it,” Conrad said. “Sometimes the wickets are so good that it takes the match-ups out of the equation. If there’s something in the wicket and there’s a little bit of spin, then the match-up could be there for the offspinner against the left-hander. Maybe the angle you create sometimes. By and large, I think it’s slightly overstated on really good batting wickets,” stated the Proteas’ coach.

With both teams conscious that a win will considerably increase their semifinal chances, this match promises to be a tactical struggle between two T20I powerhouses.
