The IPL 2025’s 39th game saw Gujarat Titans (GT) defeat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) handily. The match was played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Monday, April 21. GT maintained their lead in the standings and moved one step closer to a postseason berth with their sixth victory in eight games.
Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of KKR, chose to chase after winning the toss. With a brilliant knock of 90 (55), captain Shubman Gill helped GT reach a formidable 198 for three in 20 overs. Jos Buttler (41*) and Sai Sudharsan (52) provided him with crucial top-order support.
KKR lost the match by 39 runs after their reply could only muster 159/8 in 20 overs. With Angkrish Raghuvanshi at number nine, Ajinkya Rahane (50) fought a solitary struggle with a half-century but did not receive any help from others despite having a strong batting lineup. Rashid Khan (2/25) and Prasidh Krishna (2/25) were GT’s standout bowlers.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane considered the defeat during the post-match presentation and stated:
“First of all I thought, 199 was chaseable, we came back with the ball really well. Chasing 199, we didn’t get off to a good start, it was very much chaseable, we faltered as a batting unit, need to keep going. It was little slow, when we were bowling, if we could keep them below 200, would’ve been good.”

Fielding has been a bit of concern, it’s something in our control, if we can save 10-15 runs, that’ll be brilliant, we lack that at the moment in IPL.
