According to reports, a major step has been taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee to recognize youthful phenom Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his outstanding exploits. After the Indian Premier League 2026 concludes, the 15-year-old is reportedly being considered for India’s selection for the forthcoming T20I series against Ireland in June.
Sooryavanshi could overtake the illustrious Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at the age of sixteen, and become India’s youngest-ever international cricket player if given a debut. The young player has been selected for the Ireland tour, where India will play two Twenty20 Internationals on June 26 and 28.

“He is in contention for the Ireland tour and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.”
The move indicates that the selectors are ready to provide the Rajasthan Royals prodigy with further exposure to opponents who are not as challenging. A successful performance in Ireland can enhance his case of the next tour of Zimbabwe where India will play three matches between July 23 and 26.

The young player has built growing excitement around himself with his bold approach against elite bowlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Notably, he took on one of the world’s best T20 bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, smashing two sixes in five deliveries, including one off the very first ball.
Moreover, he showcased his aggression again against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he hammered 19 runs in a single over off Josh Hazlewood, including three boundaries and a six. He then capped off his innings in style by smashing back-to-back sixes off Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
