Mohammed Siraj of India celebrates the match winning wicket of Gus Atkinson of England with teammate Dhruv Jurel on day five of the 5th Rothesay Test Match

India had won the final Test match at The Oval in a nail-biting match, and one player who took an ice-breaker with another player was wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel with the Player of the Match, Mohammed Siraj. In an immediately viral selfie video, Jurel (who was standing in place of the injured Rishabh Pant) said sarcastically, “I believe only in Miyan bhai”, with reference to Siraj and his popular nickname. It was a mocking allusion to something Siraj had said of Jasprit Bumrah following his stellar exploits in the 2024 T20 Final.

His 5-wicket match-winning performance at The Oval saw him being given the Player of the Match award. What was more special was that he actually got back to form, after being criticized on his playing performance in the third test at Lords he responded to his critics in style and leveled the series 2 levels and 2.

This victory represented a handful of significant milestones for India. The side had never won the fifth Test in a series away from home before. In addition, India’s six-run victory was the closest in Test cricket history. India’s next red-ball assignment is in October, when they face the West Indies for a two-match Test series. Meanwhile, the English team will focus on the historic Ashes later in November.
