Kuldeep Yadav in IND vs WI Test
India's Kuldeep Yadav celebrates after taking five-wicket haul during the third day of the second and last Test cricket match

Once again Kuldeep Yadav showed his class when he tore apart the West Indies batting line on the third day of the second Test in New Delhi. The spinner in the left arm had received five wickets at 82runs and India bowled the visitors out at 248 and had an incredible lead of 270 runs. Kuldeep, after the match, talked about his story and said how he kept on moving after no opportunities, merely through patience and self-belief.

Kuldeep has seldom been given a chance to play as an all-rounder since his Test debut in 2017, and he has been making the most of every chance. On Saturday he was making use of the uneven places, combining his turn and flight in a gorgeous fashion. The highlight of his whole performance was his dismissal of Shai Hope when a ball that straightened sharply struck the off stump and left the batter shocked.

Kuldeep Yadav was also on his great streak, and eliminated Tevin Imlach and Justin Greaves with disguised variations. Jayden Seales was his last wicket which capped off a five-wicket haul. Since 156/4, West Indies was disintegrating to 248 and the spell of Kuldeep shattered their backbone. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed three wickets and the pacers were pressuring on the other end.

“I mean, I hardly think about the balls at the moment, you know, whatever ball I get, I just have to bowl, and whatever format I play, just give my best, and yeah, obviously, taking a five-wicket haul after quite a long time was special, and yeah, you have to create magic on the field. That’s what I always think about, and it doesn’t matter if I play in 18 months or one month. That was very clear to me,” he said after the game as quoted by Hindustan Times.

I have always been a great admirer of Kuldeep: Anil Kumble

Former India spinner Anil Kumble commended Kuldeep’s rhythm, adding that he maintains confidence despite lengthy intervals between games.

“Absolutely brilliant! I have always been a great admirer of Kuldeep Yadav, and despite limited opportunities, he consistently showcases his match-winning abilities. It is not easy to maintain rhythm and confidence without regular play, but Kuldeep seized this chance perfectly in the first innings. He played a pivotal role in dismantling the West Indies batting line-up, demonstrating control and composure. I expect him to be central again when India returns to bowl tomorrow and aims to claim the remaining wickets. Kuldeep’s outstanding performances have been evident across formats whenever given the opportunity, whether with the red or white ball,” Anil said on ‘Cricket Live’.

John Campbell beams and Shai Hope revels as the former brings up the first Test ton by a West Indies player in 2025

By the end of Day 3, the West Indies had fallen 97 behind India, with John Campbell (87 off 145) and Shai Hope (66 off 103) still to be dismissed in their second innings. India had already bowled the visitors out at 518 for 5 having earlier bowled out the visitors at 248.

On Day 4, Campbell changed his previous 87 overnight 115 (199) into a maiden Test century and was run out by Ravindra Jadeja. His knock was historic, he was the first West Indian opener to make a Test hundred in India in 23 years.
