India's Abhishek Sharma watches the ball after playing a shot during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four Twenty20 international cricket match

Abhishek Sharma demonstrated his match winning skill once again by looting a glorious 75 off only 37 balls in the match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match at the Dubai International Stadium. Not only did the young opener drive the innings of India with his scampering stroke play, but also made a landmark history and topped the record of his mentor and coach Yuvraj Singh, which made him further an influential T20 batter in India.

For the seventh time in his career, the southpaw got a half-century in 25 or less deliveries after reaching his fifty in just 25 balls. He surpassed Yuvraj Singh, who had four such innings under his belt, with this accomplishment. Only Rohit Sharma (six) and Suryakumar Yadav (seven) have more among Indians.

Abhishek Sharma continued his dream run at the Asia Cup, smashing his way to a record 16 sixes in the tournament — the most in a single edition, breaking Sanath Jayasuriya’s 2008 record of 14. Already India’s top-ranked T20I batter, he also became the only player to cross 200 runs in this edition.

Bangladesh started well with the new ball, swinging it both ways and creating early pressure. Abhishek got a reprieve when stand-in skipper Jaker Ali dropped him off Tanzim Hasan Sakib. He made the most of it, adding 72 runs in the powerplay with Shubman Gill, who chipped in with a quick 29 off 19.

The left-hander then tore into Mohammad Saifuddin and Mustafizur Rahman, racing to his fifty in the seventh over. His run ended with a sharp run-out from Rishad Hossain, but his fireworks had already set up India’s innings. With skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Tilak Varma failing, Hardik Pandya’s 38 off 29 kept India afloat as they finished on 168/6.
