England are facing India in the second semi-final of the ICC Men T20 World Cup 2026 in the legendary Wankhede Stadium. England captain Harry Brook also tossed and chose to make the first strike but the move soon backfired, with Indian opener Sanju Samson giving a scintillating knock.
The innings by Samson were real decisive ones when Brook dropped him at the time when he had reached 15. It was a wasted chance as the wicketkeeper-batter would proceed to hit 89 out of a possible 42 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes with a ridiculously high strike rate of 211.90. Since the time of reprieve, Samson contributed 74 runs on only 35 balls entirely turning the tide in favour of India.

The right hander did not drop the confidence he had in his last appearance against the West Indies cricket team where he had hit an unbeaten 97 which saw India into the semi-finals. His rebound is especially important since he had been ineffective in the bilateral series against the New Zealand national cricket team earlier in the season and he had been ousted in the XI in favour of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan.
Sanju Samson Finds Form at the Right Time
Sanju Samson was remembered prior to the Super Eight match against Zimbabwe national cricket team but he at first appeared scruffy, although he struck a few sixes. But he has in fact rebounded with a resounding smack at West Indies and now has come up at the opportune moment when it is most needed, with a semi-final that is under pressure.

The campaign of India started well as they were not yet beaten in the group stage with victory over United States, Namibia, Pakistan and Netherlands. Their sole defeat was against South Africa in the super eight.
India as champions have a golden chance to make it through to another peak battle since they have defeated South Africa in the 2024 final. Their victory in the first edition in 2007 would mean they will be the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times in 2026.
