In contrast to earlier media coverage, the leading selector of Mumbai, Sanjay Patil, has come out to explain that star India batsman Rohit Sharma has not yet informed him whether he would play the domestic team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. On the other hand, Patil noted that Mumbai will embrace the decision made by Rohit should he choose to make himself available.
Earlier, there were speculations that Rohit had already contacted with the Mumbai Cricket Association, whilst Virat Kohli has still to announce his choice to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, Patil’s comment makes it plain that the Men in Blue opener has yet to finalize his appearance in Mumbai.

Rohit and Virat currently play exclusively One-Day Internationals for the Indian side. And, with the BCCI regulation clearly requiring players to engage in domestic cricket when not on national duty, the star Indian tandem must play VHT in order to be considered for selection to the ODI team in the future, which is currently led by Shubman Gill.
