The Nagpur-born batsman did not play since the exhilarating night in the 2025 champions trophy final in Dubai against New Zealand. The Men in Blue were victors of the coveted trophy in their third attempt and the Indian captain was declared the Player of the Match thanks to his 76 innings.
Gautam Gambhir, the coach of India, had taken on board Nayar whose contract has been cancelled by the BCCI. In March, he assisted the Men in Blue to win the 2025 Champions Trophy in the United Arab Emirates. Dubey has in the meantime partnered with Mumbai Indians (MI) which is a leading Indian cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 38-year-old stated in the video that was posted to X:
“That’s Abhishek Nayar, by the way. Whether he plays, whether he coaches and whether he is on his bed. he is always stiff.”
In response, Nayar said:
“I’m flexible when I coach.”
Rohit Sharma and Amit Dubey both laughed at the joke, with the former stating:
“Kya Dubey ji, itna khush kyun ho rahe ho bhai? (Dubey ji, why are you so happy?)”
